Social Development
Each Y.A.L.E. school emphasizes activities to develop each student's social knowledge and skills, as identified by the student's IEP and Y.A.L.E.'s assessment of the student's abilities. Activities might include:
- Cooperative learning
- Direct social skills instruction
- Group and individual counseling
- Planned social groups
- Problem solving instruction
- Structured peer assistance
- Structured peer tutoring
To support students' social and emotional well-being, Y.A.L.E. stresses non-competitive progress assessments, independent and instructional level class work, and relevant homework assignments on which students are likely to succeed.
