Dates of PTO Ice Cream Social and Yard Sale changed

The dates of the PTO Ice Cream Social and Yard Sale fundraiser events have been rescheduled! The new dates are Friday and Saturday October 21st and 22nd. Please see our Events calendar for start times and details.

iPads proving “app-propriate” for Standard 9 students

In an effort to improve the way students use technology in the classroom, the Y.A.L.E. Standard 9 concentration embarked on a new initiative for the 2011 school year to use iPads as the main computing device for students and teachers. Each Standard 9 student and teacher was given his or her own iPad loaded with software apps that will be used for a variety of classroom tasks including e-textbooks, email and web browsing, note-taking, word processing, creating presentations, personal organization, and more. Fine Arts classes flying into Fall in the Cherry Hill Lower School

Y.A.L.E. Fine Arts classes started the new school year with students “taking steps” towards their futures by designing their own sneakers and collage caterpillars. The metamorphosis of caterpillars into butterflies is our metaphor for a wonderfully transformative school year. Robotics club rolling into second year at Cherry Hill campus

The Cherry Hill campus Robotics Club rolls into its second year this fall under the guidance of a new staff advisor and with the help of Moorestown Friends School. Club members meet weekly to plan and build robots using LEGO Mindstorms NXT kits. Read More »

New club at Cherry Hill campus encourages creative thinking and problem-solving

The Cherry Hill campus is launching an Odyssey of the Mind club this year for 6th-8th grade students. The club encourages students to “think outside of the box” to come up with creative solutions to very specific problem-solving challenges. Club members will compete at the Lighthouse regional competition in Mount Laurel, NJ in March. Read More »

New focus on social skills clubs for new school year

Y.A.L.E. continues to provide a skill development program designed to teach and reinforce social competency and the generalization of appropriate social skills. The format of skill development has changed for the better at Y.A.L.E.’s Cherry Hill, Williamstown and Northfield campuses. Students still learn social skills through clinician-guided skill development lessons once per week in the classroom. Now students will also participare in one class period per week of activity-based Social Practice Groups (or “clubs”) facilitated by our teaching staff. Read More »

How to order a DVD copy of the 2011 Cherry Hill graduation ceremony

To order a DVD copy of the 2011 Cherry Hill Upper School or Lower School graduation ceremonies, please send us an email with your name, the name of the graduate, your email address, phone number, current mailing address, and the number of copies you would like to order. Each Y.A.L.E. graduate may receive one copy for free, additional DVDs are $5.00 each. The DVDs will be mailed out in a few weeks, once they have been processed and duplicated.

Y.A.L.E. Staff Members Receive Award for Special Education

Every year, the Council of Private Schools for Children with Special Needs presents the Ruth K. Newman Award for Excellence to teaching professionals in the area of Special Education in NJ. The award is named after Ms. Ruth K. Newman, a pioneer in establishing private-school education for disabled youngsters. Dr. Rachael Sautter presenting at ABA conference in July

The director of Y.A.L.E.’s autism program, Dr. Rachael Sautter, will give a talk at the New Jersey Association for Behavior Analysis One Day Conference on July 15th, 2011 at Rowan University.
