Y.A.L.E. School Cherry Hill

The Cherry Hill campus provides a full-year, full-day educational program to children diagnosed with a variety of disabilities: Asperger's syndrome, specific learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disabilities, and/or multiple disabilities. It serves children age 5 to 21.

The campus has separate Lower School and Upper school buildings. In addition to fully-equipped classrooms, the campus features a full-sized gymnasium/all-purpose room, outdoor athletics fields, computer labs, a carpentry program, a visual arts computer lab, and a school store. Each classroom is equipped with state-of-the art teaching and learning technology, including computers and software that are available to every student.

Cherry Hill offers an array of educational activities to help students become active, productive citizens. Depending on their needs, students:

  • Take classes that emphasize transition from school to work
  • Take classes that directly teach marketable job skills
  • Participate in internal or external school-to-work program
  • Participate in programs to develop their social and communication abilities
  • Participate in programs that teach them to use public transportation
  • Join athletic teams that compete against other schools in a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball etc.
  • Take elective classes, such as art, music, woodworking, and visual arts

Cherry Hill's supervisors and instructional staff systematically use applied behavior analysis (ABA) to plan and implement instruction. ABA is used because research has consistently demonstrated its versatility and effectiveness. Consistent with ABA principles, students' goals are measured objectively and performance data are graphed frequently. Changes to a student's instruction and services are based on data trends, clinical conferences, parent conferences, and IEP requirements.

To maintain high standards, Y.A.L.E. School Cherry Hill's instructional staff receives frequent training, frequent consultation and coaching, and ongoing supervision.

To help parents and guardians better understand and work with their children, Y.A.L.E. School Cherry Hill stresses collaboration between the school and home. To facilitate this, we provide parents and guardians with many services including detailed progress reports, ongoing updates from teachers, consultation, training, and support groups.
