The Y.A.L.E. School Southeast, located in Voorhees, provides year-round, full-day educational programming to children with autism or pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS). Classes are open to children age 3 to 14 years.
Y.A.L.E. School Southeast provides a modern learning environment designed to meet the needs of our students with autism or PDD-NOS. Every aspect of the school and its programs has been tailored to strengthen learning. Eight full-size classrooms are complemented by a conference room, a full kitchen, a large multi-purpose room, a faculty room, a laundry room, and a nurse's suite. Each classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and learning technology that includes computers and specialized software f for students. Y.A.L.E. Southeast also has a large playground with equipment for promoting agility and muscle strength. Together, these features support highly individualized instruction designed to meet each student’s unique needs.
School supervisors and Y.A.L.E.'s instructional staff systematically use empirically-based applied behavior analysis (ABA) methods to design and implement instruction. Staff continually study the professional literature to ensure they employ best practices. Consistent with Y.A.L.E.'s principles, staff are evaluated quarterly to ensure that they effectively use best practices to instruct their students. Accordingly, students’ goals are measured objectively and frequently and performance data are graphed daily. Changes to a student's instruction and services are based on data trends, clinical conferences, parent conferences, and IEP requirements.
To help students achieve their IEP goals, all classes emphasize:
- Applied Behavior Analysis programs
- Highly qualified teaching and support staff
- Intensive transition support
- Language development
- Low student-teacher ratios
- Ongoing monitoring, support, coaching, and consultation for teachers and staff
- Onsite parent training
To help parents and guardians better understand and support their children, Y.A.L.E. stresses school-family collaboration. To facilitate this, Y.A.L.E. Southeast provides parents and guardians with many services, including:
- Daily, data-specific activity reports
- Bi-weekly updates from teachers
