Prom. It is a rite of passage for many teens. This spring, the students at The Y.A.L.E. School’s Voorhees campus along with students from the Y.A.L.E. Audubon HS campus will enjoy dinner, dancing and dressing up as they arrive for the campus’s first prom. The theme, “When You Wish Upon a Star, Your Dreams Really Do Come True,’ was inspired by teacher Joy Blatherwick.

More than a dozen staff and students from three Y.A.L.E. School campus locations — Audubon, Mullica Township, and Voorhees — joined forces with tens of thousands of other autism advocates on May 18 for the ‘Walk Now for Autism Speaks.’ The nation’s largest grassroots autism walk raises millions for research.

The Y.A.L.E. School Northfield campus recently marked “Children’s Mental Health Day” with a creative program that drew over one hundred students and guests. The event was covered by local TV station NBC40.
Working in close cooperation with the Atlantic Cape Family Support Organization, students participated in confidence-building activities, lectures on mental health and a drum circle led by Mike Veny, a nationally recognized professional drummer and inspirational speaker. Other speakers included Andrea Burleigh, FSO Director; Dr. Inua Momodu, Psychiatrist; Elizabeth Manley, Executive Director from the New Jersey Children’s System of Care; Dr. Buzz Mingin, Y.A.L.E. First annual Y.A.L.E. School Voorhees Spring Fling Prom — events for the students include a dinner, structured games, a visit from a special guest, and dancing. The students will be dressed in formal attire and teachers will be on staff to help participate and guide the festivities. Students from the Y.A.L.E. Audubon High School campus have also been invited to participate. This event is for Y.A.L.E. School Audubon and Voorhees only and is not open to the public.
Teams of students from the Cherry Hill campus Lower School and the Medford campus met on the athletic field at Cherry Hill for a “Y.A.L.E. vs. Y.A.L.E.” soccer match. Phys. Ed. teachers Debbie Snyder and Tom Myers coached the two teams and several parents attended as spectators. The final score was Cherry Hill 6, Medford 3.

Students and staff at the Y.A.L.E. School Mullica Township campus joined approximately 900 Mullica Township school district students, parents, and staff for “Blow Bubbles 4 Autism” blowing bubbles and forming a huge “autism awareness ribbon” shape on the school’s field (pictured in overhead view below). “Blow Bubbles 4 Autism” is a worldwide April Autism Awareness Month event intended to help children with ASD “burst out of their bubble of isolation” and interact with their communities.
